Its Good Friday and we have 11 drivers battling it out in three racing grids on the 1100m Le Mans Track in this weeks FNC Race Night competition.
It was a great and fun night of racing with our drivers testing their mettle and skill on the track after hard well fought battles from the practice rounds to Semi-Finals we had entering the nights FNC Super Final were:
Jeremy Roberts (232pts), Shane O Riordan (224pts), Phillip Heaphy (224pts), Jordan Dowden (220pts), Chris M. (204pts)
With the karts prepped and ready to go, our drivers head on out to take their positions behind the pace kart in their two by two formation as they complete their warm-up lap, as the pace kart peels back into pit lane and they travel down the main straight in their two by two all revved up to go the green lights were on and they’re off racing!
As our drivers proceeded into turn 4 Phillip Heaphy and Shane O Riordan were involved in an accident resulting in Shane retiring in the first lap, as the race continued we saw some expert line taking and precise manoeuvrings by our super finalist as they moved into their positions, the race continued and as the drivers exited out of turn 8 making their way onto the main straight we saw Jeremy Roberts holding a solid lead of 5.891sec over Chris M. and Jordan Dowden who were battling for 2nd position in the field with Phillip Heaphy looking for an opening to move up into the top 3.
As the Super Final continued on by the 3rd -> 4th lap the crowd was ecstatic as they watched and cheered from the side lines and also using their phones to watch the race times live on the Kingston Park Raceway App. Jeremy Roberts was holding a solid lead defence with a 11.613sec lead with the rest of the grid in full pursuit.
Lap 5 we had Jeremy Roberts now moving into a solid 19sec lead over Chris M. with Jeremy Dowden and Phillip Heaphy battling for 3rd position and looking for any and all opportunities to make it up to the forward field.
Lap 6->7 we saw Jeremy Roberts still holding a solid lead and continuing to dominate out on track, as the race begins to close in to the wave of the checked flag the drivers made their last attempts to move up on track, as they came thru the Sponsors Corner and hit the Main Straight Chris M. defending 2nd position had Jordan Dowden and Phillip Heaphy hot on his exhaust and both looking for the right tactic to catch up to and pass Jeremy Roberts who was now holding a massive lead of 22.497sec.
Lap 8 as the drivers came into turn 3 for the final lap Chris M. engaged in an illegal racing manoeuvre intentionally forcing Jordan Dowden into tyres which resulted in Chris M. receiving a disqualification.
As our drivers exited the Sponsors Corner on the final lap and came onto the Main Straight, our Track Marshall at the checker station ready to wave the flag Jeremy Roberts holding a 26.197 sec lead down the straight followed by Jordan Dowden and Phillip Heaphy as they raced down the straight holding on to the top 3 positions as they dashed to victory and the prized checked flag and with Jeremy Roberts claiming 1st pos, followed by Jordan Dowden 2nd, Phillip Heaphy 3rd, Shane O Riordan (RETIRED), Chris M. (DQ) who all gave themselves a great challenge on track in this final race.
As the race was over and the drivers returned to the pits and exited their karts the crowd once more gave them a cheer and applause on a well fought race by our super finalists and after the race the finalists, their mates and family members made their way to the podium for the end of night presentation and awarding of our weekly prizes given to our podium finishers.
