Friday Night Challenge - week 43

Posted on November 5, 2018 by

Tonight we had both regular and new drivers battling it out on the 1100m LeMans Track in this week’s Friday Night Challenge.

It was an awesome night of racing with drivers testing their skill on track and after hard well fought battles from the practice rounds to Semi-Finals our drivers entering the nights FNC Super Final were: Jackson Meeuwssen, Patrick Ketley, Aaron Evans, Andrew Barnes Nathan Stewart, Stephen Vaughan, Matthew Stewart, Jeremy Gunsser, Ben Fulljames, & Dan Greer.

With the karts prepped and ready to go, our drivers head on out to take their positions behind the pace kart in their two by two formation and complete their warm-up lap, as the pace kart peels back into pit lane, they travel down the main straight in their two by two all revved up to go…the lights go GREEN and they’re off racing!

As our drivers proceeded out of turn one we saw the forward half exit the corner three-wide not giving each other an inch, in the opening corner we see Jackson Meeuwssen taking the lead from the get-go.

Coming out of corner 8 saw Aaron Evans hot on the hammer of Jackson Meeuwssen challenging each other as they proceeded down that straight with the rest of the field looking for an opening to overtake the lead drivers.

As the Super Final continued on by the 3rd -> 4th lap the crowd was ecstatic as they watched and cheered from the side lines and also using their phones to watch the race times live on the Kingston Park Raceway App. Jackson Meeuwssen holding his lead over Aaron Evans and Matthew Stewart not too far behind looking for a chance to catch up to Aaron Evans.

Lap 5 and we had Jackson Meeuwssen run a fraction wide at turn 1 and Aaron Evans pounced on the opportunity to take over the lead with Jackson Meeuwsen now in 2nd and Nathan Stewart in 3rd. The battle pack for 3rd position was heating up with Ben Fulljames & Matthew Stewart right behind Nathan Stewart.

Lap 6->7 saw Jackson take an excellent line out of turn 8 – The drag was on down the main straight with Jackson taking back the lead from Aaron into turn 1 with Jackson then proceeding to set the fastest lap of the race with a 62.077. The battle for the lead intensifies with Aaron still right on the rear bumper of Jackson. Suddenly in the pack behind, Ben Fulljames comes out of nowhere up the inside of turn 5 and goes from 5th to 3rd in one swift movement.

As the final push was on to the chequered flag Jackson Meeuwssen has now managed to build a small lead over Aaron Evans with Ben, Matthew & Nathan still battling it out for 3rd, Stephen Vaughan, Dan Greer, Patrick Ketley, Andrew Barnes & Jeremy in full pursuit to make their last attempt to pass and make up another position.

As our drivers exited the sponsors corner and come onto the Main Straight our Track Marshall is at the chequered station ready to wave the flag and Jackson Meeuwssen makes his dash to victory followed 4.221 sec later by Aaron Evans in 2nd position and Ben Fulljames claiming 3rd position with the remaining drivers shortly following.

As the race was over and the drivers returned to the pits and exited their karts the crowd once more gave them a cheer and applause on a well fought race by our super finalists and after the race the finalists and their mates and family members made their way to the podium for the end of night presentation and awarding of our weekly prizes given to our podium finishers.
