Friday
Night Challenge 28-06-2019
Good evening
and welcome back to another night of adrenaline fuelled action here at Kingston
Park Raceways Friday Night Challenge! It was a wet and wild ride out here
tonight with the rain coming down but still over 40 drivers came out to take up
the challenge of the wet conditions with only one of them able to take home the
top prize here tonight. The heats went by pretty quick and the wet conditions
getting the better of even some of most experienced drivers but only the top 6 were
going to make it through to the final, those drivers were James Maroske,
Braydon Bateman, Beau Coplick, Joshua Manser, Jeremy Van Der Merwe and Daniel
Young. Now lets dive right into tonights main event.
Through the
night the track had started to dry up but towards the latter part of the night
the 100 Le Mans track was doused with a bit more rain and during the warm up
lap Daniel Young somehow drove straight into the back of Joshua Manser and
Jeremy Van Der Merwe which was very odd but in this instance, he was let off
with a warning. Continuing with the warm up lap the pace kart returns back to
the pitlane, the FNC finalist continue down the main straight waiting for the
lights to go green. Green lights come alive and off they all go! Sliding out of
turn one is Joshua Manser managing to loose a few spots in the process and is
now at the back of the field.
Braydon
Bateman gets a little too close to the chicane at turn 4 and get himself stuck
into those tyres but he manages to shake himself out and continue with the
race. Six laps to go and the wet track is proving to be a great test for the six
finalists as they drift their way around turn 2 again. With James Maroske
leading the pack, Jeremy Van Der Merwe is slowly but surely catching up to our
first placer, being very careful not to slide out too far and loose his
position.
There is
only three laps to go now but the water has played a big role with the
performance of the go karts as our leader James Maroske has all of a sudden
lost power right around turn 7 and as he returns into pitlane, furious, James
plows into the back of the parked go karts in pitlane and that was him for the
rest of the evening. With James retiring it now puts Jeremy Van Der Merwe in 1st
postion with only 2 laps to go! Right after James Maroske pitted, driver
Braydon Batemans kart also lost power too resulting in Braydon also retiring
from the race.
We are now
down to the last lap of the Super Final and Jeremy Van Der Merwe showing his
skills around the wet weather track, Jeremy Van Der Merwe crosses the finish
line in first place signalling the end of yet another great Friday Night
Challenge!

Jeremy Van Der Merwe 80.085
