Friday Night Challenge - Week 43

Posted on August 25, 2021 by

Hello and welcome back to Kingston Park Raceway for Friday Night Challenge. For week 43 we saw 12 drivers make their way down to the Lemans track for the next round in Friday Night Challenge. Majority of the drivers were new and a few regular drivers. The nights races kicked off with the drivers being split into 2 groups for the practice rounds so the drivers can get a feel for the karts and the track. With the practice race, out of the way it is now time to kick off the main heats of the night. With the 2 groups warmed up and ready to go the night was underway, with all drivers fighting hard on track to earn the right to be in top 6 positions for the semi-finals. From the top 6 drivers in each semi-final group only 3 drivers from each group will make it into the super final to race for the champions trophy.

Throughout the first 3 races it seemed to be Michael Ha dominating the track again this week. Corey Batrachnjko and Lewis Barry were hot on his heels. The 3 races were fast becoming a battle between the 3 drivers all wanting that pole position.

The semi-finals got underway with the top 8 drivers from group on points resume the battle for the top 6 positions available for the super final.

From the semi-finals, the top 6 drivers in the super final were Michael Ha, Lewis Barry, Corey Batrachnjko, Matthew Wintersgill, Jay Harvey and Nathan Batrachenko. As the drivers finished the safety briefing for the final race, it was time to get the main event under way. All of the drivers switched from being laid back and joking around to competitive mode for the big race. Who will be crown another Friday Night Challenge winner? Its time to go and the drivers headed out on their pace kart lap. The pace kart peeled back into pit lane and it was time to begin the gentle rolling start up to the start/ finish line. The lights went green and we are underway. From the jump, all of the drivers were fairly even with everyone that was racing are bumper to bumper. With all the drivers completely bunched up there wasnt much room for overtaking opportunities. At turn 4 Ha showed his experience to open up a gap over the other drivers. Batrachenko lined up next to Harvey down the main straight to take the racing line around turn 1 and move up to 5th place. Lap 2 saw Ha set the fastest lap of the night with a 62.138 and Batrachnjko dived up the inside of Barry at turn 8. While the battle for 2nd place was going on Batrachenko moved passed Wintersgill to close in on Barry and Batrachnjko. Ha was pushing hard by doing consistent low 62 second laps but couldnt break into the 61 second lap. Down the main straight Barry lined up next to Batrachnjko to take in the inside line around turn 1 on lap 5. While the battle for 2nd place continued Ha kept stretching his lead and on lap 6 he finally cracked into the 61s.

TOP 3 of the Super Final:

1st Michael Ha (61.830)
2nd Lewis Barry (62.541)
3rd Corey Batrachnjko (63.456)

Fastest Lap of the Night: Michael Ha (61.830)
