The final Friday Night Challenge for the year and the last chance for our drivers to win some prizes and it brought the best of the best out. Starting off the front row was Dean Ferguson and Michael Ha and off the second row was Josh Callaghan and Si Ne Lou for the Super Final. Dean Ferguson was on fire all night taking the win over Michael Ha in all the previous races so far, however Michael Ha was going to do his best to make sure that Dean Ferguson didn’t leave with the clean sweep. I predict that this is going to be entertaining race!
The pace kart heads out onto the track and our drivers follow on behind, getting a feel for their kart and intimidating their competitors. The pace kart pulls into the pit lane and the drivers make their way up the main straight awaiting the green light, knowing full well that if they go to early they’ll be awarded the dreaded black flag. Green lights are on and it’s time to go racing. Dean Ferguson pulls off a good start with Michael Ha getting pushed back to third place. It wouldn’t be too long however before Michael Ha took back Second place into turn 4. This does however leave Dean Ferguson with a nice tidy little gap on Michael Ha and giving Michael Ha some serious driving to do if were to catch up to Dean Ferguson.
As the race goes on Michael Ha seems to be only catching up little by little, with a tenth of a second here and there. However all of a sudden Michael pulled half a second on Dean Ferguson and then the battle really began. Dean Ferguson, sensing that Michael Ha was right behind him, started driving on the offensive and Michael Ha was having a hard time trying to get around the fat line that Dean Ferguson was driving on. It looked like it could be either one’s race this time as they drove around with only a tenth of a second between the two of them! The excitement was building in the crowd and you could almost see the smile on the faces of the two drivers as the intense racing was heading towards its climax.
Three laps to go and Dean Ferguson has held off Michael’s relentless attacks from behind, and was looking pretty comfortable and composed in the kart. However as they approached turn 3 Michael Ha made a move where most wouldn’t dare even think of. Michael threw it up the inside of Dean Ferguson in possibly one of the smallest gaps I’ve seen a go kart go through. A little rub occurred between the two drivers, but to quote the great Harry Hogge from Days of Thunder, “he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he rubbed you. And rubbin, son, is racinâ€. The drivers obviously looked at this the same way as they just kept on racing hard and fast. After the pass on the inside of Dean Ferguson, Michael Ha seemed to just pull away a little from Dean Ferguson and led the remainder of the race until the checkered flag was out and waving.
1st Michael Ha (fastest of the race 62.348)
2nd Dean Ferguson
3rd Josh Callaghan
Fastest man of the night - Michael Ha 61.801
Fastest woman of the night - Si Ne Lim 66.6
