Pro Series Round 1
Friday 22nd 2019
After many months of planning it was time for the best of
the best to compete. We are looking for the fastest drivers at Kingston Park
Raceway and over the 6 rounds we will find that best and fastest drivers who
will race off later in the year to find out who is the King or Queen of
Kingston Park raceway.
To be in the event the drivers had to post a race time of
better than 62.50 seconds on the Le Mans track in the last 24 months and
invitations were sent to all drivers who qualified.
Pro Series Rd 1 was well contested with 15 drivers on the
grid for race 1. Qualifying was run and all drivers were quick out of the box
with karts circulating very quickly down in to the low 62 second bracket and we
could see that this was an elite group who were here to race. Fastest qualifier
with a 61.012 lap time was Dean Ferguson followed by Braydon Bateman and Jack
Daniels in 3rd
Heat 1: The race started with all drivers coming out in
qualifying order with Dean Ferguson leading
the karts down the straight for the first time. But the paced quickened as the
karts exited corner 2 Joshua Manser speard down the inside of Cnr. 3 splitting
the leaders and moved away from the pack. Bateman was in hot pursuit with
Ferguson rounding out the top 3. They continued that way until lap 7 were
Bateman positioned his kart on the outside of 7 as they entered the braking
area and manged a squeeze pass as the entered the final lap. 1st was
Batemen, 2nd Manser and 4 seconds in arears was Ferguson who had 6
karts with in .5 of a second all over his bumper
Heat 2 They were now in reverse order and that put our
slower qualifiers up front on lap 1. The lights changed and all drivers took a
more cautious approach to lap 1 and with the pack jammed up behind the leaders
the fast runners were looking for a way around by lap 3. Jack Daniels make a
break in lap 4 and was quickly chased by Dean Ferguson and Lewis Spencer who
drove superbly to challenge for the lead on the last lap. 1st was Dean Ferguson
who drove off the back of the grid, 2nd Lewis Spencer and 3rd
came Jack Daniels (yes it is his real name)
Final: The points have been counted and the man off the
front was our highest point score Dean Ferguson with Braydon Bateman in second
place on the warm up lap. As the lights change Batman races into the first corner
and hold the leader tight against the inside kerb slowing his exit. Jack Daniels
sitting back in 5 th spot seizes the opportunity and runs wide into 4 and
snatches the lead in lap 5. He peels off
two 61 second laps and starts to cement
a solid lead over his rivals as he races away to the final lap. Ferguson and
bateman were unable to close the gap and ran in as they raced. 1st
was Jack Daniels, 2nd Dean Ferguson and Braydon Bateman in 3rd.
Fastest lap was 61.498 set by Jack Daniels.
It was a fast night of racing with the top 5 drivers in each
heat dropping into the mid 61 second lap times. The drivers all commented on
the speed of the karts and they all said they appreciated the higher level of
marshalling for each race. From the towers point of view the racing was
impressive and there were very few incidents throughout the evening which made
our mechanics very happy so thanks to all for such an amazing display of good
sportsmanship.
Here are the overall results for the Round 1 of the Pro
Series karting event at Kingston Park Raceway
1st Dean Ferguson 174 points
2nd Jack Daniels
168 points
