Friday Night Challenge 08-06-2018
As a full grid of drivers arrived for one hell of a Friday night out they were ready to take on the challenge of the 1100 metre LeMans track. Completing one practice round and four heats of extraordinary racing. The top 10 drivers qualifying through to the super finals we have are Angus P, Levi Hardy (Birthday Boy), Alex M, Peter H, Lachlan Hardy, Iain Hardy, Griffin H, Oliver Hardy, Bruce Hardy Brendan H. As it’s a wet night it could be anybody’s race Also a shout out to Levi’s Birthday Group joining us here tonight at Kingston Park race way. Happy Birthday Levi.
As all driver’s gear and they head out onto the LeMans track, behind the pace kart for their super final leading the grid is Oliver Hardy on Pole and Brendan Hardy locking out the front row but do they have what it takes to keep it there. The pace kart pulls in, the lights go green and we’re off and racing down into turn one as most driver’s slip and side on the wet track making it a real Challenge. Oliver Hardy gets off the perfect start already opening up a gap over the rest of the grid as the rest of the drivers are still trying to find the driest line on the wet track. Oh no we have Alex M facing the wrong way at turn 2, now that’s not going to win you the race.
Our top 3 driver’s after the opening lap are Oliver Hardy in 1st , Brendan H in 2nd, Griffin H in 3rd. With all drivers pushing they have closed the gap on the leader as the top 6 karts are bumper to bumper, it could be anyone’s race at this point. Oh no the Birthday Boy Levi Hardy has ended up out braking himself going into turn 1 and ends up meeting the tyre wall dropping him to the rear of the gird. Our top 6 drivers all still pushing very hard, not giving a second to anyone. Suddenly we have Griffin Hardy in 3rd place going for the over take on 2nd place around the outside of turn 8 and…oh no Griffin Hardy loses the rear of the kart and slides into the tyre wall dropping himself back down to 4th place. Very hard to overtake around the outside on a wet track better luck next time Griffin Hardy.
We are nearing the end of the race now and still in the lead is Oliver Hardy but right on his gearbox was Brendan P. Driving almost a second faster every lap. The leader has turned himself and now is facing the wrong way at turn 4 after trying to overtake a lapped kart, he drove out onto the dirty racing line and that gives a free pass to Brendan P to take the lead. Oliver Hardy gets it going again but that did cost him a lot of time and ultimately cost him the race. The checkered flag is out and our leader Brendan P takes the win.
1st: Brendan P
2nd: Bruce Hardy
3rd: Oliver Hardy
Fastest lap of the night went to Bruce Hardy 86.421 (Wet)
