Friday Night Challenge - Week 20

Tonight we had 21 drivers divided into two grids to battle it out on the 1100m LeMans Track in this week’s  FNC Race Night competition.  It was a great night of racing with our drivers testing their mettle and skill on the wet track, due to some light showers before race start saw our drivers drifting and sliding through corners as they attempt to tame the Le Man’s Wet Surface and after hard fought battles from the practice rounds to Semi-Finals we had entering the nights FNC Super Final were:

GRID A: Ethan Cumming 236pts, Nathan Hocking 224pts, Jonty Carrington 224pts
GRID B (Audi Indoorpilly): Ryan Davis 238pts, Matt Brittain 226pts, Patrick Shepherd 218pts

With the karts prepped and ready to go, our drivers head on out to take their positions behind the pace kart in their
two by two formation and as they complete their warm-up lap and as the pace kart peels back into pit lane and they
travel down the main straight in their two by two all revved up to go the green lights were on and they’re off racing!

As our drivers proceeded out of corner two we saw them start to form into their positions and attempt to hold or move up in the grid out on track, with Ryan Davis taking the lead and Ethan Cumming and Nathan Hocking hot on his exhaust.
Entering into corner 4 saw Matt Brittain lose control at the corner over driving his go kart and Jonty Carrington & Patrick Shepherd attempting to avoid and were involved in a crash costing them a lot of time . Coming out of corner 8 saw an upset for Davis as Cummings saw an opening and took the inside line and go past Davis on the Main Straight leaving Davis dismayed and the crowd ecstatic as they watched from the side lines and also using their phones to watch the race times live on the Kingston Park Raceway App.

As the Super Final continued on by the 3rd -> 4th lap Cummings had cemented his solid lead over Davis who was attempting to reclaim 1st position while also trying to defend against Hocking who was also looking for an opening as he was behind Davis hot on his racing line.

Lap 5 we had Cumming up to a 0.400 sec lead with Davis and Hocking neck and neck battling for 2nd position and with Shepherd, Brittain and Carrington attempting to catch up with the forward half of the grid while trying to get past each other.

Lap 6->7 saw Davis finally catching up to Cumming coming through the turn 7 sponsors corner and as they exited corner 8 were neck and neck as they came down the straight with our spectators cheering them on from the fence line.

With the final push to the checker flag Cumming proved to be the indomitable mountain for Davis as he held a 0.638 sec lead and Davis trying to find the opening and 6 sec  behind we had Hocking who had held a solid third for this race trying to get the right racing line to catch up to Cumming and Davis.

As they exited the final corner Davis was closing in on Cumming with only a 0.143 sec between them the battle down the straight ensured right to the waive of the flag and with Cumming claiming the victory and Davis coming in close for 2nd with a 85.398 the fastest wet lap time of this final and a few seconds later Hocking crossed the line followed by Shepherd, Brittain and Carrington.

As the race was over and the drivers returned to the pits and exited their karts the crowd once more gave them a cheer and applause on a well fought race by our super finalists and after the race the finalists and their mates and family members made their way to the podium for the end of night presentation and awarding of our weekly prizes given to our podium finishers.

1st place Ethen Cumming 85.505 sec
2nd place Ryan Davis 85.398 sec
3rd place Nathan Hocking 86.186 sec
4th place Patrick Shepherd 87.768 sec
